Sustainable Stays at Rossclare Lodge

Caring for Our Planet, One Guest at a Time

Here at Rossclare Lodge, we believe that luxury and sustainability can go hand-in-hand. Being determined to do our bit for the planet, we’ve woven eco-friendly practices into the very fabric of our guest house. It’s not just about ticking boxes; it’s about creating a truly responsible and enjoyable experience for you, our valued guests.

Little things that make a big difference

You’ll find sustainable and unbleached bamboo toilet rolls and tissues in your room. Naturally, we buy them in bulk, cutting down on travel miles and avoiding bleaching products. And you can forget those tiny, throwaway plastic shampoo and shower gel bottles! From day one we committed to refillable dispensers filled with lovely, natural products from Faith in Nature. Filling landfill sites or floating plastic islands in the oceans is not our thing.

Fresh milk in little jugs awaits you in your room – no single-use plastic UHT milk here! And speaking of fresh, we bake all our delicious cakes and cookies right here on the premises, using wholesome ingredients and zero plastic packaging

Sustainable laundry & cleaning

Laundry day? We use ingenious laundry sheets which are plastic-free and come in biodegradable packaging. We also encourage longer stays with our linen policy. By not washing everything daily, we save energy, conserve resources, and extend the lifespan of our lovely linens. So don’t be surprised if you try to book a one-night stay and can’t. There is a very good reason for this. And dear guest, you benefit from the opportunity to enjoy even more of the Fermanagh Lakelands. It’s a win-win!

That lovely smell in your bathroom is our fabulous cleaning product from Purdy & Figg. Their non-toxic, chemical-free products, made with lovely essential oils are not only eco friendly in their refillable, reusable glass bottles, but also smell fantastic, which is why we use them for cleaning the bathrooms and surfaces throughout the house.

Sustainable stays with solar power

But our commitment goes beyond the little things. Whether you stay in the main house or the garden apartment, we’ve harnessed the power of the sun with solar panels, providing renewable energy to heat our water and power our appliances and lighting. You might think that living in the rainy Lakelands this might be a waste of time, but you’d be surprised at how much power can be harnessed even on a cloudy day.

Look after the invertebrates and the rest of the food chain looks after itself

Our garden is a haven for wildlife. We’ve carefully planted beds, bushes, and trees to feed the birds and invertebrates, creating a delightful space for our guests to enjoy. It’s a symphony of buzzing bees and chirping birds, right outside your window. We get nocturnal visitors in the form of foxes, and pine martens who steal the crocus bulbs too!

We’re also mindful of food waste. Our breakfast menu allows you to choose exactly what you want, minimizing leftovers. Any food scraps we do have are composted, enriching the soil and eventually helping us to grow more food. So the green salads with your DIY pizza kit have zero airmiles, and the baby tomatoes on your sharing platter have been picked fresh from the polytunnel.
