Discovering Castle Crom: An Absolute Gem Near Rossclare Lodge
Located just 27 miles from Rossclare Lodge, Crom Castle Estate is a truly stunning location. The drive takes about 40 minutes, making it an easy day trip. If you are searching for breathtaking romantic walks in Fermanagh, this National Trust estate is perfect in every way, and we think you will love discovering it too.
Yew Trees & Romantic Ruins
The woodland walks here are simply beautiful. They wind through the fairy glen and move beyond to the water’s edge. Keep a look out for the ancient yew trees on the way. Amazingly, some are over 800 years old!
The old castle ruins add a touch of romance and history to your stroll. The combination of ancient history and natural beauty makes this one of the finest romantic walks in Fermanagh for couples wanting to reconnect with nature and each other.
There is also a romantic little nugget of history to discover. Can you see the tower on the island in the middle of the lake? Back in the days of yore, couples who married at Castle Crom were ferried out there. They would spend their wedding night in complete privacy. Or so the story goes! It is quite the romantic gesture.
All Are Welcome
One thing that makes the estate special is its accessibility. The walks are mostly level. So, whether you are super fit or prefer a gentle amble, you will find it manageable. We love bringing our dog here, but it is equally popular with families and couples of all ages.
Castle Crom is rarely crowded. This means you get that peaceful, restorative experience that makes a day trip feel truly special. During the summer months, the coffee shop is open. Thankfully, the public loos are open all year round!
Step Into History
Don’t miss the charming boathouse and icehouse. They provide fascinating glimpses into life from days gone by. Afterwards, cross the bridge over the river. You can delight in exploring the walled garden before heading back.
If you prefer a longer walk, you can easily pick up the main estate trail. There is also a lovely summer house where you can enjoy your picnic, whatever the weather.
