Once upon a time, I told my mum we were planning to relocate to the UK to run a B&B. “Oooh, it’s hard work!”, she exclaimed, perhaps forgetting that for thirty years I had been a teacher of teenagers! That was hard work, believe me! Running a bed and breakfast in Northern Ireland is piece of cake by comparison,
Needless to say, I laughed. Of course, she was right (mothers always are, I find). However, this hard work brings more rewards than you can shake a stick at. Every time someone says thank you for their pot of tea at breakfast time, or compliments us on the scrumptiousness of the chocolate brownies in their cookie jar, I smile. Each time a guest writes a kind comment in our guest book, my heart swells with pride, because I know I’ve got it right. Running a bed and breakfast in Northern Ireland is just great! I’m sure you’ll agree that it makes getting up at 6am in the dark and downing tools at 9pm really worth it.
Online reviews have become a thing to treasure too. When you run a bed and breakfast in Northern Ireland your guests can come from all over the world. They come with all kinds of different expectations too. So getting a five star review on Google or TripAdvisor is a massive pat on the back. I’m pleased to say that all of our reviews have had five stars so far!
I was in Irvinestown this morning, getting my bacon and sausages at the butcher’s, and my birdseed at the hardware store. The sun was shining, people were going about their business and it felt so good to be alive. I’m grateful to be living in this beautiful part of the world, where there’s so much to see and do. You can choose from the Marble Arch caves, the Stairway to Heaven, Florencecourt, boat trips to Devenish Island. Or you could do the factory and museum tour at Belleek and visit the stone circle at Drumskinny.
Having so much on your doorstep makes running a bed and breakfast in Northern Ireland a reward every day. So, if you’re not sure where to go for your next holiday, there’s always room here for you, and you’ll see that I’m right – there’s a lot to be grateful for!
And yes Mum, it is hard work, but I love it !
