So, here I am, deep in thought this morning… when I should actually be applying the third coat of paint to the apartment wall. But, let’s face it, the lighting is just awful today, so that task is taking a backseat for now. It’s not procrastination if the light’s bad, right? 😜
Yesterday brought a delightful surprise. A group of lovely French ladies, on their way to Donegal, stopped by after spotting our house from the road. Don’t worry—they weren’t up to anything untoward (at least I don’t think so! 😉). They simply wanted to take a closer look at our garden and snap some photos because they found it so beautiful. I was more than happy to oblige – flattery gets you everywhere, right?
We shared a laugh about how they weren’t staying with us—such a shame, really, as I could have done with some French parlaying! (is that a word, or did I just make it up?)
Their visit got me reflecting on just how much we’ve transformed our garden in the two years since we moved here. It’s amazing! Our hard work has really paid off, and the number of pollinators visiting has skyrocketed, thanks to all the flowers we’ve planted. Plus, I’ve been able to decorate the house with blooms straight from our garden and a few guests have treated themselves to a posy or two.
The feedback from our guests this year has been heartwarming, with so many kind words about the garden. And let’s not forget the lovely hens—they’ve definitely been a hit too! 🐔 Jim’s been busy adding fruit trees, and we’ve already tasted a few plums and some lovely apples this year. Fingers crossed, we’ll be enjoying pears next year too.
Speaking of fruit, our crab apples made for a stunning addition to my autumn wreath, but now I’m thinking… why not make some crab apple jelly? Sounds like a tasty little project, don’t you think?
Once I finish my decorating duties (whenever that may be!), I’ll be planting more daffodils under the flowering plum tree. And let’s not forget the sweet peas, ranunculus, and anemones on my never-ending to-do list. The great thing about gardening is there’s always something to look forward to, whether it’s a new bloom or the return of old friends like the bluebells and hellebores.
Oh, and the word “pond” has been casually thrown around in conversation, so who knows—tadpoles next year? Stay tuned! 🐸
Whether you’re an old friend or a new face, you’ll always get a warm welcome here. We’ve had the pleasure of reconnecting with some familiar faces this year, but making new friends is just as special. And our repeat guests? Well, they’re definitely part of the family by now!
If you’ve stayed with us this year, I’d love to know—what did you enjoy most? And did you leave us a review on Tripadvisor or Google? It’s not too late if it slipped your mind! And don’t forget, if you’re thinking of booking your next stay, do it here on the website where the prices are best!
For those of you who are new here, a big, warm welcome! Why not give us a follow on Facebook and Instagram? Thanks a million! 🌸
